Sh***y Post

Well, here I am, back again, had a wee break from blogging, again :(

So, I had a clinic appointment on 28th July and my weight was down again so I've been started on Megace along with my Olanzapine in the hope that the two will work together to get some meat on my wee bones ;)

Susan, one of the CF nurses came out 2 weeks later to flush my port and give me a quick once over, my weight was up to 50kgs (yeeha :) ) and my sats were 97%. seems the pills were working - until a week later, I got severe constipation :( no amount of sennacot, movicol, lactulose, or syrup of figs would help. I was in pain and starting to panic as I hadn't had a bowel movement for 3 days, my last resort before calling the CF nurses was a suppositry. Thank God for those wee bullets, it took me another 3 days of sennacot and dulcolax before I was back to normal.
I think my problem was the sheer amount of food I had started to eat since starting on my magic pills was just too much for my poor wee tummy :( That and the need to adjust my creon maybe.
But everything is back to normal now, hopefully I haven't lost much weight with my troubles, my appetite is back too so that must be a good thing ;)

BugJam23 - 17/19 July'09

We got off to a good start on Friday morning, leaving at 9:30 we expected to get there at just after 7 that night.
The drive down was no problem, we followed the SatNav because the last time we went down to Santa Pod we got lost;) We arrived at 5:45 and tried to find a camping spot - getting stuck in the mud ( did I mention it rained all the way down ) and needing to be pushed out of a mud hole ( thanx lads lol )
Finally settled into a camping spot, our first port of call was a welly stall ;) we changed into them there and then and then went to explore.
After some Southern Fried Chicken we went to explore the music tents, we found the Rockaoke tent ( karaoke with a live band ;) ) and stayed there as there was a bar in it and that saved my wee legs from getting too sore from tramping about in our wellies. At 11 I was too tired to stay out so we headed back to the camper. Barry pulled out the bed and fixed sleeping bag for me, I was sleeping for half past 11.

Woke up with a start, thanx to the guys in the tent in front of us - banging music is a good alarm call ;) Went for Breakfast and then had a nosy around some of the stalls before the entertainment began.
First we watched a young guy doing stunts on a bmx bike, then headed for lunch back at the camper, some tomato soup later, we headed to watch the monster trucks and the stunt motor cyclists, another nosy around the stalls took us to the jumble area,I had to drag Barry away or we would've been skint within 5 minutes lol.
Back to the camper for a wee nap, I was knackered with all the walking, then it was out again to the retro tent to see the ABBA tribute band, they were excellent, a wee wander 'round the fairground,( wasnt keen on any of the rides, dont like the sicky feeling lol ) and a hot dog later we headed back to the camper for the night, it was quarter to 12 by this time and we had had a long day and lots of walking had taken it's toll on me :(

Up again just after 9 thanx again to the disco tent;) we got ready to leave and drive home. The drive home was a good one, no traffic jams or hold ups and we only stopped twice, once for the loo and something to eat and once for fuel. Got home just after 5 on the Sunday night, unpacked the red devil.
House was empty as Seonaid had gone to work, but wee Benji was glad to see us :D

Good Weekend

I felt good healthwise yesterday so I ventured out to watch Barry bowling in a tournament at the Bowling Club. It was lovely and warm so I sat out on the patio with my friend Elaine and had a few drinks while watching our men compete against each other :)
I came home to an empty house, Seonaid was at her friends house getting ready for an 18th birthday party. Yes, I thought to myself, peace to get ready for my own wee night out but just before I went for my shower I noticed that Seonaid had pinched my make-up, so I had to go to her friends house to collect it.

I had a good night, Barry had hurt his leg during the week playing football so he was limited to the amount of dancing he could do, which didnt please some people, lol, his fan club were gutted - I should add that Barry has a reputation as a demon dancer and everybody wants to dance with him lol, which means I can get a rest, and so does my inhaler ;)

We left after the bar had closed and my brother ,who was on door duty, gave us a lift home, thank god coz it was pouring down and I didnt fancy getting soaked lol.
Got home at quarter to one and Seonaid stoated in the door at half past one, you know your getting old when the kids come home after you, lol.

I've felt ok today, no sore heads or anything, just sore feet, stupid wedge sandals =]

Got next weekend to look forward to, going to Bugjam, a volkswagon festival, we're camping in the wee red devil :)

Seonaids Prom

While I was in Hospital getting my port fitted, my daughter Seonaid was getting ready to go to her school prom. Technically speaking, it was her friends prom but being the impatient teen that she is she invited herself as Tams partner - this means she gets to go to her own one next year, lol :)
I had a lump in my throat when she sent me the pictures of her with her hair all done and wearing her prom dress, I must admit, a tear did roll. I was gutted that I wasn't there for her but I will be there for her next year.

waited patiently.......

.......... but didn't get my Chicken Maryland :( she had something to eat when she was at work grrrr

Just need to wait 'til the next time she is working to try it.

I'm off to stick a tube up my hooter and do an NG feed instead.

nite all.

Another day............

...........of sunshine and showers.

Had a few errands to run today so off I went, between the showers, to the Post Office to pay some bills.
I then went to my aunties house for a quick cuppa and a gossip before heading for home. That was my exercise for the day :( My chest was quite tight today and I was wheezy for a bit, so when I was walking I took my time, what would normally take me 5 minutes, took 15 :O I don't go out without my inhaler in my pocket these days.

When I got home Seonaid was sleeping, so I had another coffee and a chocolate cupcake before waking her up. She has started working part time in the local Chinese take away (hehe, free carry outs). That should give her some pocket money over the summer, and it means I won't be skint having to shell out to her all the time :)

Went to Tescos for a few bits n bobs, got my weekly supply of gossip magazines, I got 7 in total, one for each day heheh, and a jumbone for Benji, yes, the lovable puppy, who has grown into a big lump who doesnt give you a moments peace, the only 5 minutes that you get to yourself is when he is munching on a jumbone. The rest of the time he's in your face, literally, or under your feet.
The poor wee soul is missing out on his 3 o'clock wander because I'm not fit enough yet to walk him, he pulls me too hard and I'm not strong enough yet, having just got my port fitted, to handle him. Another couple of weeks and we'll be back to our routine, for now he's relying on Seonaid for his walks, or Barry at the weekends.

So, now I'm waiting for Seonaid to come home from work, she is having a training session tonight so she gets a free dinner to bring home with her. Tonight, it's Chicken Maryland, well, thats what i told her to get lol, I want to try the chicken so I know what its like for future reference hehe.

Only half an hour to wait ;)

Where has the sun gone to?

Typical, the whole time I was in hospital the sun was shining and it was lovely and warm, I managed a few days at home but was limited to the time I could spend out in the sun, thanks to the antibiotics I was on. Now I'm free from the IV's and cipro, the sun has gone and the rain has started, I'm in a right huff. :(
Only good thing is the temperature is staying kinda half decent.

Rant Over.................

Update......

all this happened last month so please bear with me and my stupid dodgy memory of events :)

I was admitted to Gartnavel on Monday 1st June in preparation for my port to be fitted. I had 2 cannulas inserted so that I could be hooked up to a sliding scale, was a wee bit nervous because I have not much luck with venflons, (hence getting a port fitted;) ) but they turned out to be fine and I had no major dramas thank goodness. After a good nights sleep I was hooked up to a glucose drip and a sliding scale, my surgery wasn't 'til the afternoon so I just lay on my bed reading magazines and trying to relax until the theatre staff came to collect me. Down in the theatre area, the anesthethist (sp) gave me the General Anesthetic (sp again) to knock me out for the sugery..............Then I woke up.
Groggy and tender, I finally had my port, it's situated on my left chest wall, just below the bra line, I was also started on IV's but I didnt get to go home until 10 days into my IV's as I had problems with my bowels, thanks to the painkillers. I needed 9 jugs of kleenprep to clear my blockage :O I was finally allowed home to finish my last 5 days of IV's.
Had clinic the next week but as I had a cold, I didnt have enough puff for my Lung Function to register :(
I was started on Chloramphenicol for 10 days and they seem to have done the trick.
Just need to get my weight up now and try and get back to a normal routine.

Wednesday 29 April 2009

mmmmmm yum

pizza is ready :) its yummy :D

Bit Better Now.........

Went to bed with my dodgy tummy last night, couldn't face doing a feed as my tummy was really sore so I went to bed with my hot water bottle. I tossed and turned for what seemed like hours and couldn't get settled. I eventually got up at half past one, by this time my stomach was rumbling so I had to put on a feed, I went out like a light :D That will teach me to go to bed hungry ( sigh )
I won't be doing that again tonight, I've been ok today, just a wee bit chesty, but my inhalers sorted that out.
I've got a pizza in the oven, and I'll be doing my feed around 10ish, no tummy rumbles for me tonight :D

Feeling Yucky :(

It was the Ladies open day at the bowling club on Saturday, and my daughters 1st year in the adult section. Had a great day, weather stayed dry for a time so we actually got to play some bowls before the thunder and lightning rolled in :)

Our team won a prize for the highest scoring rink, and Seonaid won some prizes in the raffle so none of us came home empty handed lol.

On Sunday, we went to Barrys sisters for a big family dinner, there were 20 of us there, and she coped brilliantly, got home at 10 on Sunday night, feeling rather tired.

Today I had a lie in, got up at half one, had a really sore head and dodgy tummy :( took some painkillers and lay on the settee for a while.
When Seonaid got home form school, I went out for a wee while, went to my aunties house for a bit to see if the fresh air would clear my head. 2 coffees later, I came home and made dinner for me and Seonaid. My tummy is still a bit dodgy so I'm going to take another painkiller and do my NG feed then go to bed with my magazines :/ Hopefully I'll feel a bit better tomorrow, I think the weekend has just caught up on me :(

Thursday 23 April 2009

It's been a while........

..............since I last posted.

So, whats been happening?

Was admitted to hospital on 30th March to have my 1st port fitted. I had been fasting all day and when I was finally taken down to get the procedure done, the hospital had a power cut :O
Turns out the whole of the west of Scotland was affected so I didn't get my port fitted that day. Got a 2 night stay in Hotel Garters instead lol.

I am now waiting for another date to go in and have it done.

I also had my M.O.T (annual review) last week. Don't know how my lung function went but I do know that I did well in my walking test, managed 450 metres this time, 40 more than last time. My weight is up too, I was 49.3 kilos :)

Sunday 18 January 2009

Saturday Night.............

...................and I'm snuggled on the sofa updating my blog.

The rain is lashing down and the winds are almost gale force so theres nowhere I'd rather be.
I'm heating a macaroni in the oven for my (late) dinner, didn't get home from the football till after 6, after a killie pie and coffee ( don't like bovril) I didn't feel like eating anything but I'm starving now.

I was at clinic on Tuesday, good news is my weight is up since last time, but my LF is down a bit. Docs said not to worry too much as one off reading is nothing to panic about, my LF has been steady recently so I might just have had an off day. They'll see how I do in 6-8 weeks and maybe give me IV's a bit earlier.

need to go now........ovens beeping so my dinner must be ready

Money Money Money

In September last year my local Bowling Club had a Charity Day to raise funds for various charities, usually its Cancer Care but this year they have decided to give some of it to The West of Scotland CF Patient Fund. I helped raise some of it by painting faces and having a wee tuck shop for the kids. So tonight is the presentation of the cheque and Lisa our Physio is coming down to accept it on behalf of the patient fund. more on that later.............
